Nits a la Fresca from Andratx

 

The gastronomy that you can find in the CANP PEP in Port de Andratx, rich in products of the land and the sea, will be the perfect appetizer of these summer nights. You can enjoy a dinner on our exclusive terrace overlooking the bay of the Port and then attend one of the shows as part of the cycle Nits a la Fresca in “la vila”, which are held during the month of August at 10:00 pm. The concert “Lírica i Estels”, scheduled for 30 August, brings the summer programme to a close with local artists Cristina Van Roy and Pablo López. There will also be street theatre in different corners of Andratx and on the beaches of Camp de Mar and S’Arracó.

August program

Thursday, 13 August: “Rock & Ros” concert on the beach of Camp de Mar (free).

Sunday, 16 August: concert by the Jazzwize Quartet on Cala Es Fonoll beach at 10 pm (free).

Thursday, 20 August: the group “Aprojove” will perform in the cloister of the Castell Son Mas (free). Advance booking of seats is required.

Saturday, 22 August: concert by “Xanguito” on S’Arracó beach (free). Advance booking of seats is required.

Thursday, 27 August: concert “Paradís” by Joana Gomila and Laia Valés in the cloister of the Castillo Son Mas. Price: 5 euros.

Sunday, 30 August: closing of Nits a la Fresca in the cloister of the Castillo Son Mas with the concert “Lírica i Estels”, with Cristina Van Roy as soprano and Pablo López as baritone, accompanied by Jesús López on the piano (free).

At the Restaurant Can Pep in Port d’Andratx we comply with all the hygiene and safety protocols established by the Ministry of Health and the Department of Health and Consumption of the Government of the Balearic Islands.

– We have installed informative signs with basic recommendations for the prevention of infection, focusing on maintaining a safe distance and washing and disinfecting hands.

– We have intensified the cleaning and disinfection of washbasins and other common areas, which are sanitized more frequently than usual by an authorized company. Likewise, the cleaning and disinfection of crockery, cutlery and glassware before and after the meal service is meticulous.

– We supervise that clients do not make arbitrary use of the equipment on the terraces so that it can be disinfected between diners.

– We also provide customers with disposable napkins and hydroalcoholic gel.

– We have replaced the classic menu with menu with a QR code available on the internet for a more secure consultation that is adapted to the needs.

– We recommend replacing cash payment with card transactions.

And all this without losing our traditional smile, which can be sensed under the hygienic mask that we all wear.

Sunset at the Mirador des Colomer

The sea and the rocks are the protagonists of this unique corner of the island, with spectacular views of the peninsula of Formentor where the famous lighthouse with the same name is located.

Also known as Sa Creueta, this viewpoint, in the northeast of the island, offers a unique spectacle of the wildest area of the Mallorcan coast thanks to the 200 metres of height at which it is located.

At this point on the island the rocks seem to want to gain a few metres from the sea by means of long fingers on which the waves of the Mediterranean break. This enclave is located on the Ma-2210 road towards Formentor beach, about 5 kilometres along a road with curves and slopes but with unbeatable views. From here you can see the Colomer islet and a large part of the Serra de Tramuntana.

In addition to the delight for the view that this place represents, the intense wind that is felt in some points of the viewpoint stimulates absolutely all the senses.

The Mirador des Colomer was designed by the engineer Antonio Parietti Coll, who carried out this project with a clear vocation to respect the majesty of the environment. In fact, the stairs that lead to the two points with the best views are carved into the rock, so it does not break the magic of this place that blends with nature.

This route is ideal for any time of year, but during the winter it is less frequented and the peace it transmits far exceeds that which can be achieved during the high season. At present there are no restrictions on access with our own vehicle, but during the summer months we must inform ourselves before arriving, unless we use public transport.

After seeing that our magnificent Serra de Tramuntana has unique corners to contemplate the serenity of the sea and the calm of the great mountains, we can continue our route towards the appreciated Port d’Andratx, our north, despite being located in the south of Mallorca, and enjoy the authentic island cuisine in the restaurant Can Pep, the maximum exponent of the culinary tradition of the area.

The municipality of Andratx offers many plans for this Christmas. From CAN PEP we encourage our clients to attend the events they like the most. The entire programme is available on the Town Hall’s website.
Some of the most outstanding events are the Christmas Market, the New Year’s Eve party, the Three Wise Men parade or the Christmas Park. In addition to many more activities such as concerts, workshops, exhibitions, musicals, competitions, cultural routes …
From CAN PEP we recommend going to see the exhibition “100 years of the church of Port d’Andratx” in the same church of Port, until 12th January.
Remind all those interested that the procession of the Three Wise Men on the 5th of January will disembark at the port at 6.30 pm.

Can Pep, several generations and same place

CAN PEP restaurant in Port d’Andratx has seen time go by in this small but emblematic port anchored where the Tramuntana begins. Several generations have witnessed how a small fishermen’s refuge has become a port of reference in Mallorca. Man always looks back to build a future and improve, and CAN PEP know that evolution is necessary to adapt to the palates of visitors who come to try the best recipes of Por d’Andratx.

In spite of the changes there is something that remains in this emblematic restaurant, and it is the essence of its cuisine and its promoters. The idea for the creation of CAN PEP came from Mrs. Margarita, who in 1962 was already delighting fishermen with her croquettes. Little by little, on the ground floor of her house a kitchen opened to new gastronomic recipes with the best raw material, 100% local, where the specialty of rice, fish and seafood began to develop. In 1968, despite the fact that at first it was not well received, the Puerto de Andratx Sailing Club was founded, which led to the opening of other small businesses, the creation of new jobs and the port gaining international fame. It then began to attract sailors, travellers, foreign tourists, Mallorcans and anyone who wanted to be part of this new refuge where recreational boats could enjoy native landscapes and delicacies.

In the midst of the tourist boom for Mallorca, which took place in just 13 years, from 1960 to 1973, the island went from having 400,000 tourists to having more than 3.5 million. The number of hotel beds also increased. This led to the necessary works being carried out to convert Port d’Andratx into the one we know today, with a more modern image and conditioned for the arrival of boats and all the services associated with it.

The most important change was made to the promenade and the quay, where the Lonja building is located today. And, from here, CAN PEP has witnessed the advance of history with its spectacular terrace that overlooks the sea and runs along the promenade that leads to the lighthouse after crossing the torrent des Saluet, where even today the small fishing boats are moored.

From CAN PEP we are confident that we can maintain a sustainable port model, respectful of the environment and where we can all put a grain of sand in the history of the place. In this way, future generations will be able to continue delighting themselves with the beauty and calm that is breathed in this corner of the island.
